Queen's Jubilee 2022
From 2 to 5 June 2022, Windsor will celebrate the Jubilee weekend. Having acceded to the throne on 6 February 1952, Queen Elizabeth II is the first British monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee (70 years of reign).
1- Windsor Castle
When you arrive in Windsor, you can't miss the castle. Windsor Castle has a rich history. It is the longest-occupied palace in Europe. The construction of the castle began in 1070 and it has been the home to monarchs for nearly 1,000 years. I was the Queen’s favourite weekend residence.
2 - Beacon Lighting and Fireworks - The Long Walk
The lighting of beacons is a long tradition in the United Kingdom for the celebration of Royal Jubilees, Weddings and Coronations. On 2 June 2022, the Jubilee weekend will start with the lighting of the Windsor beacon, as part of the National Beacon lighting. Platinum jubilee beacons will be lit in the 54 capital cities of the Commonwealth countries to celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, for the first time.
The event will take place on the Long Walk at nightfall. For the occasion, music will be played on the Beacon site. After the lighting, you will have the opportunity to see wonderful fireworks, which can be best viewed from the Long Walk.
3 - Jubilee Concert in St George’s Chapel
On 3 June 2022 at 7:30 pm, don’t miss the Jubilee Concert in the beautiful St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle. You will listen to music from around the United Kingdom used on royal occasions, written during The Queen’s Reign, and premiered at this concert.
You will have the wonderful opportunity to be inside the Castle grounds and experience an array of musical talent, performing with the benefit of the amazing Chapel acoustics. The event will be hosted by Petroc Trelawny, presenter of programmes on BBC Radio 3.
4 - Jubilee Picnic in the Park
On 4 June 2022, bring your picnic and come to celebrate the Jubilee weekend in the Park down the Long Walk. You can bring your own picnic or grab a bite to eat and something to drink from one of the specially selected food traders.
You will have the opportunity to admire cars from every year since 1952. There will be a variety of musical performances throughout the afternoon and evening from local bands, groups and individual performers.
During the event, you could watch the national Platinum Party at the Palace, staged by the BBC, on giant screens.
5 - Windsor’s Big Lunch on The Long Walk
On 5 June 2022, be part of the creation of the longest picnic table ever! The Big Jubilee Lunch consists of one very long table running from Cambridge Gate, down the Long Walk towards the Copper Horse.
The Big Lunch began in 2009. This event encourages communities and people to celebrate their connections and get to know each other a little bit better, coming together in a spirit of fun and friendship. The theme of this year is the Commonwealth.
